How do you provide always-on support for a hosting company?

For Tactica, downtime is not merely an inconvenience; it poses a direct threat to both their clients' businesses and their own reputation. Our process is designed to ensure that their infrastructure is continuously monitored, proactively optimized, and quickly responsive to any issues. By maintaining seamless collaboration and providing 24/7 availability, we serve as an extension of their internal team.

  1. Setting Up and Configuring New Servers. As Tactica expanded, we took care of the entire process of setting up and configuring its new servers. This involved optimizing them for performance from day one, ensuring they were seamlessly integrated into the existing hosting environment, and preparing them to handle client workloads efficiently.
  2. Automating to Speed Up Delivery. By utilizing Ansible and Bash, we codified the entire configuration setup, which enabled us to support Tacticas' growth and establish them as the leading hosting provider in Iceland.
  3. Project Optimization & Bottleneck Resolution. Our project began with 41 tasks created by the Tactica team in a single day. Each task impacted different parts of the infrastructure. We grouped and prioritized these tasks, which allowed us to resolve all issues efficiently without disrupting agreed SLAs and SLOs.
  4. 24/7 Real-Time Monitoring & Incident Response. We have implemented comprehensive monitoring tools to track server health, resource usage, and performance metrics in real-time. Our dedicated team is always on call, ready to detect and respond to any system challenges immediately. This approach ensures minimal downtime and keeps Tactica's clients' hosted systems running smoothly.

Operational stability and proactive tuning

We validate backups for databases and site data, confirming their reliability and verifying restore times to ensure quick data recovery.

Preliminarily, we also documented the RPOs and RTOs for each workload class.

Regular drills transformed our disaster recovery processes from a simple checklist into a robust and proven capability.

We implement standardization and optimization measures for cPanel across the entire setup:

  • encompassing service profiles
  • tuning of EasyApache/PHP-FPM
  • configuring for MySQL/MariaDB
  • adding mail hygiene through SpamAssassin
  • setting up backups and monitoring mechanisms.

This initiative resulted in enhanced panel performance, reduction in service-related inquiries, and improved predictability of server behavior under load conditions.

We implement operational optimizations on the WordPress sites for our clients, which include:

  • Opcode, object, and page caching
  • Setting up separate PHP-FPM pools for each tenant
  • Adjusting image compression and CDN settings
  • Ensuring proper database indexing and auto-vacuum hygiene
  • Implementing log rotation
  • Offloading scheduled cron jobs and tasks

In terms of security, we establish baseline measures that include:

  • Minimizing the number of plugins
  • Enabling automatic critical updates
  • Setting up a Web Application Firewall (WAF) and rate limits
  • Conducting malware scans with quarantine protocols in place

New dedicated servers were provisioned and secured using consistent golden images, kernel/OS baselines, vhost templates, TLS settings, and monitoring.

Each node joined the infrastructure with the same performance and security standards from the start.

For example, when Tactica launched a new product, we provided guidance on a Kubernetes microservices architecture with cluster design, ingress, secrets management, CI/CD patterns, and observability.

We outlined a practical migration path from cPanel workloads to containerized services without risking and even improving current SLAs.
